STRONG PERFORMANCE ALLOWS BRETTS TO EXPAND ITS OFFERING TO CUSTOMERS

A strong performance reported by Guyhirn-based Bretts Transport last year is enabling the company to further strengthen its offering, building on its unrivalled service and delivering even greater value for customers.

Bretts, which specialises in the storage and distribution of ambient foods and other products, is ploughing profits straight back into the business investing in company infrastructure and offering career opportunities for members of the team.

The company has recently appointed a new Transport Manager, while three members of the company’s senior management team are studying for a four-year BSc (Hons) Supply Chain Management degree course.

The work going on behind the scenes is in tandem with improvements which will be more tangible to customers, with Bretts identifying additional warehousing premises to manage increasing demand which is once again hitting new heights.   The company is also looking to further add new services to its portfolio complement its existing offering to ensure increased utilisation of its fleet.

In-night and weekend deliveries into major British supermarkets – most of which are already long-standing Bretts customers – and collections of containers from ports such as Felixstowe and London Gateway – are among the growth opportunities identified by Bretts.

Simon Brett, CEO of the third-generation family business, said more use of the fleet through the night and at weekends – ensuring round-the-clock use of vehicles– is a key way to ‘sweat the assets’ and build more efficiencies into the business.

Simon said the effects of changing consumer habits on the business, brought about by inflation and extended periods of uncertainty for employers and households, recently gave the management team the opportunity to take stock.

He said: “Of course we want to continue growing the business but without compromising the quality of the service we deliver to customers, most of whom have been with us for several years if not decades.

“By pausing to take a forensic look at the business we have been able to identify opportunities to grow organically whilst at the same time look for new business opportunities.”

Its ability to navigate periods of industry volatility, demonstrating resilience amid turbulent times by diversifying its offering to accommodate changing needs in the sector has led to a host of new opportunities for Bretts.

Simon Brett added: “The business operates a highly competitive environment where customer retention, margin protection and delivering flexible solutions remain key priorities. However market pressures have begun to ease since the year end, creating a more favourable outlook.”

Simon praised his staff at Bretts, highlighting how the collaborative effort across the business had allowed the company to weather the current market challenges. He added: “This has been a genuine team effort across the business, and the positive feedback received from customers reinforces the progress we have made in becoming a more supportive, flexible and robust logistics partner.”
